Thank you for making Discovery Diagnostics one of the BEST of SC.
At Discovery Diagnostics, our goal is to provide a quality level of service to our clients. We strive to deliver accurate, and efficient results that help enrich the lives of every client we serve. Servicing Columbia South Carolina & surrounding areas, our mobile DNA and drug testing services can provide you with the peace of mind you need wherever you are.
DNA testing is a powerful resource that help discover the unknown. Yet, the testing option you choose can significantly influence the type of answers you receive. The results are both accurate and reliable, but they serve 2 different purposes and follow 2 different paths.
From the initial collection process to the final lab verification, every step follows a strict process called the "chain of custody". The collection process is supervised by a trained specimen collector, your identity is verified, a photocopy of your ID is taken, paperwork is completed by all adult parties, & your photos are taken. This is all to ensure that every person involved is accountable, thus safeguarding the integrity of the test results for legal proceedings. Because of this strict process, you are able to use the results of a legal test in legal situations such as court, custody issues, visitation, child support, birth certificate issues, etc. Since unmarried fathers cannot exercise their paternal rights until paternity is established, we always recommend this option.
Non-legal DNA tests use the same high-quality scientific methods but without the legal documentation (chain of custody process). Because we do not need to verify your identity or complete any paperwork, you can collect your own samples at home, making it a convenient option for those who might feel overwhelmed or would like to be discreet. The results are for your peace of mind only and cannot be used in courtrooms, or for any legal matters. However, they provide reliable insights into your genetic relationships, helping you make informed decisions based on your unique situation.
Type of drug test requested by your employer when you have been hired by a new company and/or moving to a new position. This test is typically performed prior to you starting your new assignment.
Random drug tests are typically performed per DOT guidelines, and are required for employees in safety sensitive positions. Random tests must use a truly random selection process – each employee must have an equal chance to be selected and tested. These are completed quarterly.
Type of test performed when a supervisor or team leader reasonably believes that you are under the influence of drugs. This must be based on observations concerning appearance, behavior, speech, smell, etc. If they have a reasonable suspicion , you will be sent to have a test conducted.
This type of drug test is required if you’re involved in an accident at work, while working, etc. This test can be request for either DOT or non DOT. However, DOT requires an alcohol test within 8 hours of the accident, and a drug test within 32 hours.
Drug test that takes place after an employee has returned-to-duty after participating in a substance abuse program. A Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) manages the follow-up testing for up to 5 years, determining how many times an employee is tested. Unannounced tests following a return-to-duty test, as prescribed by the SAP, for at least 6 tests in the first 12 months, and potentially up to 60 months. These are completed in addition to other DOT required testing. These tests are conducted under direct observation by a trained professional of the same sex.
Drug test that must be conducted before an employee who violated drug/alcohol regulations can return to safety-sensitive duties. This is done after the employee has completed the Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) process. This test is done under direct observation by a trained collector of the same sex.
